My first project after Christmas in my first year at uni was about sit-specific typography, which when I eventually got into, I really enjoyed. I researched people such as Ethan Park and Annika Koski as they are prime examples of artists who use type in the outdoors and they gave me a headstart.
First I chose my words, which are lyrics from an Evanescence song. I chose them because I felt I could do something really effective, yet literal with the style I choose to work in. Paper-cutting has become a large habit in my work and this gave me the chance to do it on a much bigger scale.
I used the scalpel to 'draw' with and made 21 roses, all different sizes and leaving gaps for me to include the typography - something I kept simple because the piece is already intricate and detailed enough. These were glued together and is now hanging on my bedroom wall at uni.
Unfortunately due to weather conditions, I am unable to take a decent photo of it in the outdoors as the piece is so delicate, the slightest bit of wind or rain could damage it, but I will upload a picture as soon as I do!
